Recently I explored some of the odd food cravings I’d experienced after antibiotic therapy. It raised the question of how my body knows the nature and location of a food I have never seen or heard of before that evidently contained what my body needed. Science has some of the answers, but not yet all.
Science
Health sciences show us that antibiotics can destroy one’s friendly intestinal bacteria. These bacteria perform crucial functions for us such as: producing essential nutrients that human bodies can’t make; digesting foods we can’t digest; processing plant hormones into the precursors of human hormones; and training our immune systems by communicating directly with our gut lining cells. Antibiotics and other pharmaceutical medications deplete nutrients in a variety of ways, either indirectly by harming intestinal bacteria, or directly. This creates a deficiency that must be filled.
Other factors such as periods of stress, changes in climate, work, exercise, social relationships and parenting also engage or increase the function of particular cells, organs or biochemical processes. Then our bodies need to be supplied with specific nutrients that we don’t often consume, or more of something common like vitamin C and zinc during a viral infection.
Our whole body including our brain is made of cells which all communicate with each other. Thus whatever the cells of the body ‘know’ they need can be communicated to ‘us’, i.e. our conscious minds, via our brain cells. Basic biology.
And Beyond…
Here’s the curly question: how does my body know about the composition and location of something that ‘I’ have never encountered before? That implies the body can access information outside itself, at a distance. The ONLY explanation for this is that information, as a field unto itself, is accessible by the body much like television channels travelling through space are accessible by a TV set.
Science is only just beginning to investigate this uncharted area of knowledge, which lies in energy and not in how we perceive matter. Everything is energy; even matter is energy. Because energy is indestructible and contains information, all the information about everything is encoded in energy permanently. It’s thus permanently accessible to whatever is ‘tuned’ to it. So, if my brain didn’t know it, what part of my body ‘got the information’ and communicated it to my brain? New research says it’s the heart that accesses all the informational energy ‘out there’ and communicates it to the brain. The heart has been experimentally shown to pick up and respond to outside information before the brain does. This is where many scientists will scoff with derision, but their objections will die away as the new lines of research proceed to bring light to the truth of this.
Good Cravings, Bad Cravings
Back to people and cravings… is the craving a true reflection of the body’s need, or an artificially produced craving for something that is not beneficial but harmful? It’s blatantly obvious that cravings for cigarettes, coffee, alcohol, recreational drugs, sugar, junk food, etc, are harmful. Even the person who keeps choosing them will say: “I know it’s bad for me, but I like it”. Obviously these cravings cannot be true messages from a body that always, by its very nature, strives for balance and healthiness. And surely there are also many other things that are more subtly harming (but not recognised as such) than these strong examples. Physically, the reward pathways of nerves in the brain are involved. However they are wired for foods in their natural state and quantities, and not modern aberrations! Also, they respond according to how they’ve been trained and that training may have been inappropriate, such as constantly rewarding children’s behaviour with sweets.
Where physical science currently leaves off, discernment and choice come in. That’s a whole other story, and one that must look to energy for the answers. Not only the heart can pick up energy, but of course the brain and the whole body can too, but what energy? This is an important question, especially since what the brain/mind ‘thinks’ it wants and ‘thinks’ it likes, are often the harmful things. Since information-loaded energy is what’s being picked up by the body, it will be necessary in future to work out the different kinds of energy, how they ‘get in’, and what their implications are to the human being.

Dianne I love how you make science so interesting and ask questions in a way that has me asking I wonder why that is.
This statement is fascinating and I wonder why this isn’t taught as part of our education.
“Everything is energy; even matter is energy. Because energy is indestructible and contains information, all the information about everything is encoded in energy permanently. It’s thus permanently accessible to whatever is ‘tuned’ to it. ”
If we could live in a way that we could tap into this energy then we would know beyond what we consider intelligence to be, we would have to because energy has been around since the universe existed and who know even beyond this!
I’ve learnt that my whole body can communicate to me, the being, what energy it is in at any moment.
Because of the workshops and presentations of Serge Benhayon I have attended I have a greater understanding of my body. For example sometimes I crave sugar and when I get these cravings I would just eat sugar in any form and feel numb or sleepy depending on the chemical composition of the food I had just eaten. Now I know that when I crave sugar there is a part of me that wants to dull my awareness to life, so that I go back to sleep and just function through the day. I prefer my awareness as that gives me a completely different way to understand life there is so much that we do not read when we are full of sugar, as we are too racy to feel anything.
A bodily need tends to come with this sense of knowing that what is craved for is supportive, these are often things that at any other time I’d have no interest in it, like manuka honey, fenugreek seeds and liver. A negative craving comes with obsessive thoughts about that food/drink/behaviour until it is carried out and then seeks more of it, like sugar and salt.
Children at school, and all of us, should learn about energy first and foremost so that they appreciate the messages received by the body and learn to make wise choices.
Fascinating that it is accepted that our cells communicate with each other but that many find it harder to accept the heart’s role in this bodily communication. Is this because we have put too much emphasis on the intellect of the mind rather than the wider knowing of the heart that can literally lead us to what we need if we are willing to allow it.
I really appreciate blogs like this which give me such a deeper insight into the human body and how it functions all day, every day, while we go about life. But sadly, so few of us get to understand its intricacies and what it needs to maintain optimum health and so we end up with the burgeoning rates of global ill-health that we have now. As far as I am concerned, care for our body ought to start at a very early age and continue as we grow up; I’m sure if this was the case, we’d all be a lot healthier.
I love that our body “always, by its very nature, strives for balance and healthiness”….how can that not be something created by God?
I love what you have shared here as it elucidates how our awareness of the quality of energy behind our cravings not only with food but with behaviours and emotions allows us a choice to respond with truth.
Agreed Carola, its about what’s behind the reason why we choose to eat certain foods first and foremost. We all know some things aren’t great for us but often reach out for them. Other times we feel like it’s something out of the blue but perhaps there its our body showing us what we are missing and needing.
I have discovered Carola Woods that my cravings are actually hard wired into my psyche so that by eating something, say sugary, it will race my body. The more I develop a stillness from within the more I can feel this quality of energy that fights to make me want sugar or another stimulant, distraction, anything, rather than feel the stillness that is inherent me and in all of us.
The new science insights that our heart picks up the outside information before the brain does makes so much sense. We communicate with each other with our hearts and not with our brains. And our hearts have such a depth, endless love and immeasurable wisdom, science can’t keep up with this yet.
I like how you explain energy, and how it is everywhere accessible to whoever tunes into it, ‘ That implies the body can access information outside itself, at a distance. The ONLY explanation for this is that information, as a field unto itself, is accessible by the body much like television channels travelling through space are accessible by a TV set.’
Reading about the intricate and innate workings of the body always amazes me and asks me to stop and appreciate the often, minute processes that are endlessly taking place in my body. I haven’t always appreciated them but that was at the expense of my health and my well-being. These days my wonder at the wisdom of my body and my appreciation for it, is immense.
We so often take the wisdom of our bodies for granted but when we pay attention and appreciate what we are being offered we have an immense source of support and love.
I agree with you Ingrid Ward I am in awe of what my body can tell me and does show me especially when I have not been taking care of myself. If I rush and do something on automatic pilot I have a tendency to bump into things, or misplace something. When I slow down and give myself the space to enjoy what I’m doing then life goes smoothly.
The amazing support our body is always offering us because the body ‘by its very nature, strives for balance and healthiness.’ its the wisdom of our body that should be honored day in day out.
If everything is just energy, information, and vibration then you have to wonder if we are craving not foods but vibrations.
Absolutely Melinda…that makes so much sense. What foods do we choose? And what do we think they are giving us?
Yes it is all about vibration and that is what we choose: the vibration that suits our purpose: either more awareness and responsibility or vibration that delays that.
this shows so clearly how the best diet is the one where we listen to our body, feeling what is needed and why we are feeling to eat that certain food.
Our body always conveys so much wisdom, it is up to us whether we allow ourselves to tune into this and benefit from what is lovingly shared.
“it will be necessary in future to work out the different kinds of energy, how they ‘get in’, and what their implications are to the human being.” – and thus at this time so will the true research and investigation into dementia and mental illness begin.
After not having eaten bananas for a very long time, a couple of weeks ago, after a period of being un-well, I began to feel a ‘craving’ for them. I initially ignored it but after a few days I felt to eat one and as I did I could almost feel my body say thank you. The craving was back the next day so I ate another. The third day I was sure I was still feeling the craving and had another but my body did not respond in the same way. I then realised that my mind had kicked in and was trying to convince me I needed another when in fact whatever my body needed from the bananas, two was enough. In the past I would have listened to my mind at the expense of my very wise body, but these days its wisdom is honoured.
Beautiful Ingrid, I have had the same experience. It is brilliant when we can trust our bodies and ourselves in this way.
Awesome sharing Ingrid and it is very supportive to have a loving relationship with our body. I had cravings for something sweet last week and I ate a banana followed by 2 dates. Not long after my stomach was aching and I had to lay down to release the pain. It was a loud and clear message from my body that it was not a loving choice, I knew from the moment I reached for the banana that my cravings were not from my body.
When we feel addicted to anything be it food, fizzy drinks or drugs its simple because we are not accepting our own loveliness and the very fact we are divine.
This is fascinating Dianne about energy and how our body receives it. The way you explained it is super easy to understand and I find each part very relatable. We receive information through our five senses but it seems that we have another sense that is not commonly recognised or talked about and that is our ability to feel energy with our entire body.
I have come to understand that when I feel a craving for a particular food or foods that is simply my body letting me know that something is not okay. In the past I would have allowed myself to give into the craving, no questions asked, and usually to the detriment of my body as clearly indicated by a variety of symptoms. These days, although it is still very challenging I will stop and try to figure out what needs addressing in my life which is manifesting in the craving. The answer mightn’t be there instantly but eventually it will be, one way or another.
Very wise words Ingrid, thank you for sharing, it is very supportive for me to read what you’ve shared.
Cravings are a call to control feelings that we are not ready to feel and let go of! What better way to numb this than to fill the body with an assortment of tantalising flavours!
There is so much more to us than we pay attention to and it is living within.
What I have also noticed is that I can have cravings beyond food- like the need to constantly check my emails or social media, the craving to create a tension with another, the craving to be more racy in my movements, the craving to go shopping- all of these are done in a way to keep my body in a busy state and not surrender to a deeper quality.
Funny word craving isn’t it because as you describe it, it is raving mad… so you could say: see me raving as in c raving!!!
Ha, ha brilliant Nicola, I love your ability to break down words and make it super fun, light and humorous and in a very clever way.
MW I can say that currently I can feel the resistance to deepening my relationship with myself which is what I have been steadily working on getting to a sense of fullness in my body where I can really appreciate the love it has for me. My mind wants to regain the upper hand again so that it can dictate to my body. I actually find it fascinating that we can fight ourselves and that the mind can be so callous, it will do anything to gain that control even if it means to self- harm.
How truly amazing our body is – harmony being its true and known way for it to work – which begs the question what is the energy that drives the need to succumb to cravings that cause the body so much harm? It certainly is not love.
‘Obviously these cravings cannot be true messages from a body that always, by its very nature, strives for balance and healthiness.’
Our body knows what to eat, how much to eat and the exact last mouthful for nourishment. All other beliefs lead us towards a spiral of ill health that supports no one in the long run
This is so very true Nattalija. Our body is the wisest and most patient friend we could ever have, but how telling it is that we often treat it like it has let us down, sometimes abusing it for giving us a message that we don’t like to hear. If we treated our closest friends like this I’m sure they wouldn’t hang around for long.
“The ONLY explanation for this is that information, as a field unto itself, is accessible by the body much like television channels travelling through space are accessible by a TV set.”
SO the energy (TV channels) is travelling through space, and then the TV set is the conduit that the energy goes through. Just like us humans, there is energies travelling through space and our bodies are the conduit for that energy – so the question is – as you so aptly ask – what channels are we tuning into?
Sarah Flenley the other question we need to ask is why are we not taught this fundamental process regarding energy ? I know that it wasn’t spoken about within my family or at any of the schools I attended or in the work place. The only person who has spoken about any of this is Serge Benhayon and Universal Medicine and what he has to say makes so much sense humanity has been given the missing link to understanding exactly what is going on and the truth of why we are here on this plane of life.
Just because our head is attached to our body it seems as though the two things should get along and sing from the same songbook. But what I have found is without the heart connecting them up they both end up doing their own thing – leading to choices that aren’t always great it seems. An awesome experiment to conduct is to live with everything connected and involved and see what direction our life takes then. Thank you Dianne.
Great point Joseph, and without our heart our body will not function and our heart is perhaps more intelligent than we think. If we start thinking with our heart perhaps we would make very different choices.
I can’t wait until this subject is explored to the point that we are all living it, not just a few and it is not just a theory that the whole body, all of its cells are in constant communication with the heart and not the head at the epicentre. The way you explain it Dianne would make even the skeptics think twice.
It is interesting that we are taught at school how different parts of the body intricately work with each other to keep us functioning and yet scientists are reluctant to concede that the heart can access information through energy and alert our brains because they have not yet seen concrete proof. Yet I, and many others, know that I have had seemingly weird cravings for a certain food when I have not been well and how trusting this has supported me in my healing process. I look forward to wider acceptance of the role the heart plays in keeping us functioning smoothly.
The more we explore the science of our body the more we have to admit it works in an incredibly advanced and intelligent way that we are yet to fully understand. So clearly the wisest thing to do would be to follow and honour what it has to say. It knows more about life than any PhD any day of the week. Thank you Dianne.
I agree Joseph, to listen and to honour our body is the best support we can give our body and ourselves. The intelligence and wisdom of our body are not yet being appreciated enough by many people.
It is like we have the most extraordinarily refined delicate and sensitive equipment or perception built within, there to tell us exactly what is happening within and without, and yet we choose to absolutely ignore this, and go for secondhand second rate information to be the foundation for our lives.
Every cell communicates it to us every day – some of us pay attention and some of us ignore what we feel so we can keep doing what ‘we‘ want.
So what is a good, “friendly intestinal bacteria” Dianne as I sure many would benefit from some good-gut-bugs. Thank you for sharing there is so much good science in what you have shared so lets hope soon this will be better understood.
It is about considering what is true not what we crave – this blog shows that food is just the end point of the energy we have already chosen and that this is where we can truly change what is possible in our bodies and the ways in which our bodies truly communicate with us. As I allow more love into my body, my choices naturally become more loving.
There is much for us to unfold and explore of who we are as a body and being in this world, what our true potential is and how we can maximise living this potential, our innate way of being. What you have shared makes so much sense, that we are part of and constantly in a field of energy, and that the heart is what is sensitive to reading energy, and in connection to our body offers us access to a true intelligence. This highlights the greater depth of awareness and connection we all have access to and can be living.
And again we can read about and indeed feel the absolute essential nature of the choices that we can make, and how these choices deeply affect our well-being and our lives
It seems to be implied in the word “craving” that it is real, it is something that should be listened to, that the person has no control and it is the craving that is in control. But as you so clearly point out, if the body is craving heroine, or even coffee, does that mean it is good for the body? Clearly not. And so the craving game is outed for what it is…
What you are sharing Dianne is valuable information that all should know. Without this awareness that true sense of what we feel will not be so freely accessible thus we are missing out on communication from all around us.
We always have a choice to choose from our bodies, rather then our minds, this life is all about lessening the hold the mind has and bringing the power all the way back to the body.
” Because energy is indestructible and contains information, all the information about everything is encoded in energy permanently. ” Thank you Dianne this is incredible to think the energy of truth is indestructible and always there and accessible if we tune into it , just awesome
“I know it’s bad for me, but I like it” – what a strange saying that is. You have to wonder who the “I” is that is speaking because chances are it is not the body.
This is a huge subject, how energy is what makes up everything – even that which we call physical matter. And I love the fact that science is exploring this because it will be very interesting to hear what they discover and thus what greater intelligence we can bring in to our lives, because surely it must be a very intelligent way to live if how we live is consciously guided by the energy that we are living by.
Thank you, Dianne – reading this I get a feeling that brain is just as much as a part of a body as any other part, and this is a great reminder that just because we are not able to see, it doesn’t mean there’s nothing. Space is not empty, it is actually very full.
We think our cravings are coming from us when we equally know many of them to be harm-full. Could the real ill here be the fact we see the indulgence and harm as a behaviour of who we are and in doing that, accept and identify ourselves as being less than what we can be.
The mind’s version of intelligence pales into insignificance when compared to what the body can access and science will prove this without any doubt. But we don’t have to wait for science to catch up – why not experiment and reap the benefits now?
I have found those bodily needs and the cravings feel different in my body once I go through with them.
For example in two different illnesses my body craved fenugreek seeds and in another instance fresh basil leaves. There was a craving but I wasn’t constantly thinking about them or becoming anxious for not having it, my body felt content after having the seeds and basil.
Whereas at work for instance I would crave almonds or marshmallows, my body would feel sick, tired, heavier, colder after eating them and my mind will get highly anxious the longer I put off resisting them or crave more afterwards.
The difference is noticeable when we pay attention.
Because of the difference between the bodily needs and the cravings, it is very important to be present in our body, for us to be able to notice and discern the origin of each one of them, before following its pull and eat or not what is asked from that energy that feeds us in a first place.
Amazing blog Dianne and a great reminder to always be discerning with every craving we have so we can distinguish if it is what our body actually needs or it is an emotional craving to mask something we don’t want to feel.
So interesting. I can’t wait to see these findings start to become more mainstream. It all makes so much sense!
I know it to be true that anytime i want something that is unloving – that makes the body racy or dull or damp – then it is not truly from the body but from the mind. And that we have a responsibility to truly listen to our bodies and respond to them and not the craving of the mind.
The word ‘craving’ smacks of something that isn’t actually going to be supportive or healthy. I wonder could you say that the word craving can exclusively be taken to mean unhealthy? Perhaps there is such a thing as a craving for a healthy food the body needs, but I would never say “I had a craving for water”… even if I was dehydrated. So I think I’ll stick with cravings being largely if not fully unhealthy.
There’s such a massive massive difference between knowing there’s a food your body needs for nourishment, for example you may need lamb one evening, to the cravings we get for sweet things, or just the taste or feel or a food in our mouths. The two are worlds apart and it’s super important to be able to discern the difference.
If only science could catch up with you Dianne, I watched a series drama about Einstein and saw how much other scientists of the time can hold back progress because it is not the thinking of the time. I marvel at the idea of having all this information floating around and being able to access it by using our bodies, namely the heart.
I’m fascinated with what will unfold with this approach to the body through science and the findings. It’s soooo interesting!
Love the science in this blog Dianne. Tickles me pink to the core. If food is one of the worlds greatest focuses then there is something to food that is greater than what we have made it to be. What I mean here is that in poor countries food is the focus because people do not have enough and in rich there is excess but nearly everyone is thinking about food a lot be it what is on for dinner or what food is their favourite. Food is eaten in indudlgence not Love. Does this mean we are using food for indulging and in a means most do not want to even consider?
Another inspiring blog but this was a biggie from an earlier comment – ‘In connection it loses power over us’. This is so true when we are in connection with ourselves there is no imposing of any substances into our bodies.
The world presents many gimmicks and lies to lure us to not feel and the biggest money making is the food industry. It is only when a person discerns and wakes up to what is truely going on and no longer falls into their trap.
The Ageless Wisdom has the answers to all our questions but it will take a while yet before science catches up, proving what the body and the heart already know and have know since time immemorial.
Thank you Dianne for making Science so relatable, everything is energy and everything is because of energy is the foundational truth that underpins all that is going on in the world.
Our bodies know and respond to the energy within and without as it is passing through us all all the time. Amazingly powerful is our heart centre in its absolutely knowing.
There is so much information out there that seems scientific and experimental in regards to what foods are “good” or “bad” for us. But until I have either experienced how my body reacts or responds to something, or discern through feeling truth, it does not feel wise to just accept or follow what is being presented. I always have to ask myself–do I want this piece of information to be right? Any investment would allow something which is not true to feed into my consciousness and there is a slightness then to truth.
There was a time in my life when I convinced myself that sugar was good for me. I did not resist sweet things and allowed myself to indulge. Very soon my body showed me the reactions of this indulgence, and I gained weight, especially around my stomach area. My mind could convince me–but the body never lies. What is true and supportive or not, is very clear.
I love the way you present science in a way that makes sense and easily understood Dianne; I really appreciate this. The lesson from your blog today is to listen and respond to what the body is conveying and to be aware of the quality of energy that is passing in and through us.
To ‘think’ that it is only some loosely-defined-in-itself concept of ‘mind’ that determines our thoughts and choices is so limiting that it leaves me gobsmacked. No doubt you could write a book/books on the subject Dianne – bringing the true science of understanding how energy works, and that we are constant receivers and expressing vehicles of energy, in and through the whole of our body.
Just what runs this body, and then determines the quality of our thoughts, choices and behaviours, is the great question then, isn’t it… Enter the work of Serge Benhayon and the aeons of Ageless Wisdom before him, and we actually have all the answers to this we need. Interesting… that mainstream science wants to yet reduce everything to its mental constructs (in the main), and not embrace the fact of our multi-dimensional energetic and fundamental nature…
Dianne what you have shared is great, there is obviously so much going on in our body than we can imagine, all the communications and changes. What is beautiful to know is that our body does give us the true signal if we just stop to listen, it will tell us what is needed and what is not.
All the ‘discoveries’ in the world to date pale into insignificance when we realise how much we have to rediscover in the science of energy.
I remember having strong cravings for particular foods whilst I was pregnant. One was gooseberries and the other was smoked haddock. Both were foods I didn’t normally eat. Looking back I feel it was my body calling out for whatever nutrients were in those foods.
What you have presented here Dianne is awesome; there is obviously so much more going on in our bodies than we realise. Your blog is a great tool in helping me deepen and appreciate my body and the energy that moves it, thank you.
Not so long ago I had an abscess in my mouth and the dentist suggested that I take antibiotics before starting work on my teeth. I had not taken these for a long time but when I had done so before I always took probiotics to counter the affects of the antibiotics ( they can kill a lot of bacteria that are supporting my body as well as those that are working against it). This time I did not take the probiotics, I managed to delay buying them and then not get round to it at all. This was so unlike me but I can understand how it happened as I was doing this in other areas of my life and I let it spill over. After this episode I found that my immune system was definitely impaired and I felt quite run down. I realised when advising someone else about taking probiotics while on antibiotics that I had not done this for myself. The next day I bought some probiotics and started to reinstate more healthy choices to my life, choices that I had become lax about. I soon found that my energy levels came up and my attitude became a lot more positive. The combination of probiotics and being more attentive to what supports me in other areas, like a daily walk and other gentle exercise, meditation and going to bed earlier and resting more in the day has brought me back to being more proactive and making wiser choices in other areas of my life too. What has also helped is putting more focus on the quality that I am in whenever I am doing anything.
I have often wondered how our bodies are managing to deal with the tsunami of processed foods that they are having to digest daily and you have offered me a glimpse into the fact that “the reward pathways of nerves in the brain are ……. are wired for foods in their natural state and quantities, and not modern aberrations!” That to me makes so much sense and also makes sense of the skyrocketing statistics of illnesses and diseases that we see in the world today. Our wonderful bodies are just not programmed to deal with what I call ‘non-foods’, products that are created in labs with the sole goal of enhancing the taste so people become addicted to them and are left wanting more, all for the sake of making the businesses money; putting profit before the health of humanity.
When we look to energy for answers the opportunity for deep and profound revelations open up to us all… consistently.
Thank you for making this topic so relatable. Choosing to listen to my body and trust the clear messages I get has transformed my relationship with my body and not only am I much more careful what fuel I put into it but also how I deepen the level of care that I am prepared to give myself. I look forward to science catching up with what so many of us have already experienced and then perhaps this will be taught in schools.
There is much, much more going on in this world than meets the eye or nose or ears for that matter.
This is an area of awareness that humanity as a whole would benefit from a whole lot of expansion. Having science come from connection to heart intelligence could we be the corner stone for health and well-being. The thinking mind clearly has a set energetic path, one that we can all see has and still is creating situations it then spends billions of dollars to try and find solutions for. For some reason this line of energy doesn’t allow for prevention to be understood as the simplest and most loving way to treat ourselves, where as the intelligent heart is this and wouldn’t choose harm in the first place.
I love this blog, it really opens up the endless possibilities and doors that can be opened if we can connect with the body and the energy that is in every single thing. The possibilities are endless and there is nothing we can’t know if this is the way we choose to go instead of being held back by what is perceived to be intelligence today.
understanding that our bodies have this extraordinary intelligence, this deep inner knowing is one of the fundamental tenets of what Universal Medicine presents and, that, if we were able to actually tune into it, would bring such clarity and awareness to our path that would transform our everyday life
“It raised the question of how my body knows the nature and location of a food I have never seen or heard of before that evidently contained what my body needed. ” This line really sticks with me Dianne. I have experienced the wisdom of my body many times. For example, I moved to a much colder climate and for the first time ever put in a couple of kilos before winter. I knew that my body was preparing for a cold winter but I had no idea how it knew I was not just in a holiday and returning to a warmer climate. It’s as though it’s a surprise to us that our body knows our future when we sometimes feel we do not. It is worth appreciating the wisdom of the body.
A great article Dianne, particularly love this, ‘Everything is energy; even matter is energy. Because energy is indestructible and contains information, all the information about everything is encoded in energy permanently. It’s thus permanently accessible to whatever is ‘tuned’ to it.’ Makes sense to me.
“They respond according to how they’ve been trained and that training may have been inappropriate, such as constantly rewarding children’s behaviour with sweets.” At boarding school for 6 years I was ‘trained’ to eat sweets (because we were allowed to have them then) every day after lunch – that was my connection with home. I can still get a craving for sweets at that time – which doesn’t happen if I don’t eat lunch or occurs at another time of day. And this is forty plus years on!!
Love this article and your writing Dianne it makes me want to study science and energy! It seems to me a terrible shame that most of us have no idea of what you talk about in the sense that we haven’t the understanding but yet we are working and with what you are talking about all of the time! This should be the stuff of school science lessons not remembering the periodic table.
I love what you shared about the body knowing something from accessing information outside of itself that you had never encountered before. It just highlights how truly extraordinary our bodies are and the wisdom they possess that we cannot begin to fathom. They are a wise master definitely worth listening to.
“Because energy is indestructible and contains information, all the information about everything is encoded in energy permanently. It’s thus permanently accessible to whatever is ‘tuned’ to it.” Thank you Dianne, science that makes sense. So we have a choice to ‘tune in’ to the messages received in the head or the heart.
If we confine ourselves to needing scientific ‘proof’ of how the body receives information and communicates to us, we will remain stuck in the arrogances of believing that without this so-called proof there is no natural intelligence of the body.
Food cravings are just that, cravings to fill what is not always needed. A yearning or longing that is fuelled by a need.
When the brain can make such odd and damaging decisions for our health, it’s time we looked and felt for truth when it comes to the body. I can’t wait till scientists prove that what you are saying here is true Dianne but in the mean time I’ll just have to keep improving my own connection to my body and feel it for myself.
We have so much still to learn. It’s amazing that we have such research going on behind the scenes, that whilst today might be contentious, I’m sure soon enough will be accepted as truth.
‘Back to people and cravings… is the craving a true reflection of the body’s need, or an artificially produced craving for something that is not beneficial but harmful?’ This is a great point Dianne, if we all lived asking this question and listened to our bodies, perhaps our society would not have such a high rate of diabetes and obesity today.
I know when I give into a certain craving I am having it just starts this whole cycle of wanting more of the same thing, not just a one off for me I notice my body then craves this food more and more.
Hello Dianne and I’ve never thought of food or cravings in this way. I have been watching a lot more the quality of my thoughts and actions after certain foods. I know with any sugars my body gets a bit racy and I know with nuts and a like I feel like sleeping. It’s amazing the more and more you open up, how things feel. At times I am convinced I want something only to feel not that great after eating it. At this point I’ve been looking at what has happened over the previous moments to bring some awareness to why I’ve chosen to have something that I’d already experienced isn’t the best feeling afterwards. This could go on and on until I unlock the feeling to the ‘why’. Thanks Dianne.
It is fascinating and important to ponder this kind of scientifically inspired blog. It is a fact that our bodies are energy and must be influenced by energy passing through them. How much we support our bodies to choose a quality of energy that heals or override them to choose an energy that harms surely is affected by whether we are prepared to acknowledge how influenced by energy we are in the first place and our openness to explore this in our lives.
This is a great blog and offers so much to ponder on, especially when it comes to cravings… Is it a true craving that the body may be deficient in a particular nutrient found in that food, or is it a craving that provides a platform for numbing ourselves? And where is this thought coming from exactly?… Understanding energy opens up a whole new field of science.
How often do we over-ride the wisdom of our body and take on what someone else thinks is best. More and more I am choosing the communications of the body. My body loves and works for me it is as simple as that. Thanks Dianne.
Recently I have noticed when I start to get cravings it is a sign I’m not with myself that I have checked out for a moment or I am avoiding something. When I am tired too I am more likely to get cravings. Listening to my body and getting rest if I need to is vital for getting myself back on track.
Deepening our understanding to discern what energy is harmful and what is healing is ongoing and vital. The scientific facts you present in this blog Dianne are interesting and informative; our challenge is to deeply listen to our bodies and respond lovingly.
I really love the way you make the distinction between true and artificial cravings Dianne. I have always been very aware of the fact that my body asks for things it needs at certain times. I notice that I receive artificial cravings when I have disregarded my body i.e. I will crave sweets or coffee when I run myself down or choose nervous energy.
It is constantly amazing what science reveals for us. All is known within us yet as we bring our understanding to how things work and how we align to what we need, the awe deepens. Magic becomes science. It’s no wonder people devote their whole lives to it.
Viewed energetically, our bodies are like some extraordinarily ancient temple of wisdom, that, if listened to, if we find the Rosetta Stone of awareness that enables us to tune in, reveals to us everything that humanity hungers for in its ceaseless quest.
There is an insatiable hunger from humanity that is literally being feed all the food and drink that tries to quell, numb and satiate. At some point we might realise that this isn’t working and what we truly hunger for is a deepening to ourselves and beyond.
Moment to moment, we have a choice about how we move. How we move affects the quality of our thoughts. Moving in one way will produce thoughts that support, inspire and illuminate; moving in the countless myriad of other ways that are possible will inspire a range of thoughts that will keep us bound by their limitation, emotional and needy. Applying this teaching has profoundly changed the way that I am and forms the key to my new sturdy foundation in life.
For a long (long) time I didn’t really want to know that cravings indicated a lack of connection to me. And in this, I denied my power.
Now, I can see it very clearly and it is easy to choose, for the connection to my lightness and loveliness is so gorgeous, way more gorgeous than whatever it is I think I am craving. This is so worth confirming and feeling to the max.
What Dianne presents is a game-changer … our bodies simply know what we need, we just need to tune in and listen
Sure is a game changer. The choice is there to live with vitality over comfort that feeds the never ending question shared by Dianne” I know it’s bad for me”.
Great conversation starter Dianne – Energy as understood through Science makes what you are sharing here easy to see in the context of our everyday lives, it also opens a pathway for us to investigate the option that there may be more to be pondered on here. Thanks Dianne.
Thank you Dianne, I found this blog really interesting to read. It is indeed beautiful, and fascinating, to see how science, energy, cravings and food are all connected.
“Since information-loaded energy is what’s being picked up by the body, it will be necessary in future to work out the different kinds of energy, how they ‘get in’, and what their implications are to the human being” well said Dianne and by exploring the different energies that get in we will then see how someone who is not present in their body is more susceptible to dementia. We can also look at mental health conditions and crime in another way. What energy does a person allow in to enable them to act in a certain way?
In truth, the discernment of energy is not a whole other story, but simply tuning our minds to choose the energy that impulses our choices. Dianne beautifully details how the body acts like an intelligent antenna picking up energy from everywhere in a totally interconnected world – even when we are ‘out if it’ and disconnected in our heads. So really our choice is to connect and discern the energy that is already entering us, so we can make the choice, healing or harming? Quite simple really and all the same story.
There is a font of knowledge that is so deep and vast, so spherically aware, so profoundly wise, that is able to answer all the questions don’t have answers, and fills the multitude of blind spots that science has, and that is, the Ancient Wisdom. This wellspring of knowing has been available to humanity literally for aeon’s, and sits quietly there as the philosophers, quantum physicists, neurologists laboriously feel their way in the dark trying to make sense of all that which only makes sense when one reconnects the dots of the energetic make-up of the universe. It really should behove us all to be on a worldwide vigilant search for anyone who has access to this wisdom, for this is the only path that will lead humanity out of its spiraling chaos, into the light of its true purpose.
Wow, Diane, this is great stuff! I love reading the scientific approach of the mind and the heart. This hits it in this sentence; Everything is energy; even matter is energy. Because energy is indestructible and contains information, all the information about everything is encoded in energy permanently. It’s thus permanently accessible to whatever is ‘tuned’ to it. Let’s be switched on to the right energy – the one that comes from the heart.
Thank you Dianne. I love the fact that the heart knows best and that science is looking into it and exploring the topic of energy.
Thanks Dianne and Ariana this is awesome.
What energy are we in before we make the choice?
Craving a solution or simply connecting to our innermost.
“Not only the heart can pick up energy, but of course the brain and the whole body can too, but what energy? This is an important question, especially since what the brain/mind ‘thinks’ it wants and ‘thinks’ it likes, are often the harmful things.” I am aware that this is something I must have at the forefront when it comes to making a choice – not as an afterthought.
Because the brain has stopped the connection to the higher mind it has to look for proof and creation. In the heart we can just allow to be, in constant communication with the universe, as micro cosmos being part of the macro cosmos. We can just trust and allow, that is what the animals naturally do, and plants, they know they naturally are following the divine order, only humans have to take over control and create something that is the opposite. With so much pressure and stress we try to prove this manifestation as human beings. This is a constant need from our mind for recognition that it is the ‘one’, but in truth it is just part of the universe as well, just on a big delay.
So true Ariana, and I have found too that when we crave something we are actually giving our power away to something we feel we can’t live without. It is very disempowering as in this state it feels as though the temptation owns you and you have no control and have to have it.
Very different feeling to feeling that a food item is something your body truly needs to support and hold it. To honour this one actually feels very empowering.
So true Ariana – when I am not connected the pull of chips/nuts etc… is so strong but when I am connected to me – and feel the love that I am – it is not there at all.
What a fascinating topic – thank you Dianne! I hope the shift in scientific thinking moves along quickly in this area as it would be of enormous benefit to mankind for more people to understand the part that energy plays in our lives, including our food choices. No doubt it will take many years to translate into common understanding in our society but at least raising the topic for consideration, along with the living example set by many Universal Medicine students, others are being shown what is possible in terms of health and well being.
Ariana it is great what you share. I have been noticing that more recently when I have a craving and I stop to feel and connect, the hold on that craving starts to fade, the craving no longer has power and it is easier for me to walk a way.
I love how you make science so tangible, simple and easy to understand. What you share here makes so much sense and inspires me to explore more about my own food cravings. Thank you Dianne, such an inspiration you are.
Re-reading this awesome blog again today just confirms for me how our hearts do know – in that I mean that if I truly listen/feel those clear messages of what is healthy and nourishing to eat as opposed to eating to feed a comfort or a need, (when my brain gets away with it) the difference is huge. The end results after eating said foods my body is also very truthful with the outcome. Your sharing words of wisdom Dianne are truly inspiring and appreciated, thank you.
Thank you Dianne for sharing your wisdom and love of science in a very natural way, and making it understandable for us to relate to.
I love Diane and her way to bring light and understanding to science and that everything is connected and everything is communicating with us all the time. We have to find our way through our hearts to be tuned in to the divine energy.
Once again Diane, I find your talks and blogs so truthful with always a lot to feel into and I also seem to have much more clarity at the end. Very cool to read, and yes what energy is making the food choices….
Thanks for the insightful article on where we get our cravings from, it should help me address the cravings that I still get.
“Everything is energy; even matter is energy. Because energy is indestructible and contains information, all the information about everything is encoded in energy permanently. It’s thus permanently accessible to whatever is ‘tuned’ to it”. How you describe energy is so accessible Dianne. My whole body explodes ‘yes!’ when I read this and then dips a little to the reaction of energies I’ve chosen in the past and still do at times today. But awesome to link this to food cravings. Thank you.
Very true Gina, the way Dianne explains it gives me the opportunity to understand something – I could slip into thinking is complicated but actually, it makes complete sense, and leaves the choice and the responsibility with me.
As always a crucial, world re-arranging, paradigm breaking piece of writing by Dianne, and as always presented so simply and beautifully, just like a conversation, but so deep.
“Not only the heart can pick up energy, but of course the brain and the whole body can too, but what energy?”
This is indeed a very interesting question; one in which I am enjoying experimenting with, feeling into and exploring.
Thank you Dianne for presenting the facts and your wisdom.
Very interesting article Dianne, thank you.
Thank you for this informative and thought provoking article Dianne. I am beginning to understand that the way our bodies operate is much more wonderous than merely physically chemically and biologically, If my heart can feel and tune in to whatever is needed and communicate that to my brain, what else is it capable of? You are definitely onto something there Dianne this new science and understanding will benefit mankind greatly.
I am really appreciating the depth this article is offering here. Previously I had this image of us ‘accessing to’ a field of information, like somewhere out there, but now I am getting a different feeling that we are actually swimming in it in every moment and it is our choice whether we align ourselves to its wavelength to get it, or not. And I am getting this feeling that cravings are an indication that that choice to align has been interfered therefore I am not able to detect what my body truly requires. And I always have both possibilities running concurrently – whether to say yes or no – and it requires me to make a conscious choice.
Dianne I have new found interest in Science since you have been Presenting and writing about it . I am amazed at what our bodies can tell us and how the energy we call in also effects us and to what degree. Every thing is energy and everything is because of energy and I am realising just what this means to our bodies and lives in general.
Diane -I love how you explain with simplicity the connection between energy and food cravings with science.
I love how you have expanded on this ,Ariana. We can control our cravings quite easily by choosing to connect to our innermost self and the craving loses its’ hold over us. How irresponsible we chose to be when we just give in to our cravings- and more importantly what is the energy we let in that stimulated the craving in the first place.
Yes, I also ask myself this question very often. My feeling is that we still need to be in our mind to not feel the deeper layers of the own hurts and lies and the hurts and lies of others. I suppose it would be very painful and challenging to be in our body and really deeply feel all the time and we are not ready for that yet. But that`s ok, we are willing to do this more and more and it`s very important to appreciate ourselves for that instead of judging us for being in the mind.
What I just feel now, when I read your writings about our bodies knowing what is good or not good for them without even having encountered certain foods, is the grandness and amazingness of our bodies being connected to the whole universe. It can access ANY information, no matter if we know about things in our brain or not. We only need to really deeply connect with our body and trust in it`s endless wisdom and we will know everything. No insecurity or worries about anything are needed anymore then. I feel so much joy about that…
Eva-Maria that is so true. It is absolutely a joy to release ourselves from the confusion of the mind and choose to connect to the all-knowing wisdom of our bodies. I love the instant clarity my body offers compared to the perpetually changing messages from my mind. The question is why if I love it so much do I still allow my mind its chaotic rule at times!
I can tell, Eva- Maria and feel that you have found back to your communication with your body. The reward is this awesome joy that fills our body, there is no need to fill it with junk food or disturbing thoughts. The heart knows it all because the connection to the bigger mind the universe. The brain has to look for proof in everything all the time, because it has no foundation of anything.
I heard about the heart being faster in encoding information than the brain at university some time ago. At that time it was just a interesting piece of information given to me. But now I can really feel that! The feeling if a certain food supports me comes from deep inside of me and not from my head. It`s very instant and I can often feel how then my mind comes in and the spirit tries to convince me to have it with lies like “A little bit is not so bad.”, “You`ve worked so much that is ok.”. Again my heart knows instantly, that this is not true. My brain does not.
This was fascinating to read. The human body is extraordinary and how it responds to energetic messages most definitely requires further examination as there is a knowing there that with exploration and appreciation, will change the face of science forever.
This is so interesting. As we realise that we have been overriding what we naturally know with our learned knowledge that comes from the mind, we can gradually trust what we know in our hearts and use that more often. I love how you explain science and energy Dianne, I love that what we feel to be true is gradually being explained by science.
I hope I live to see the day that feeling energy is a thing we all take for granted as a normal everyday thing and that science does all it can not to stand in the way of this exciting natural way of being..
I agree kevin, I hope I live to see that day – and even the day when science walks along side us, encouraging us all to see the gift in the understanding and the personal responsibility that adds to the whole so that no-one is less.
What a great blog Dianne – you present the scientific in such a down to earth, common sense and fun way. Your writing always brings clarity and truth in a way that I never experienced in science at school and look forwards to more of your blogs to read and enjoy.
I agree Stephanie, I used to think that science was beyond me and I would switch off very quickly, but I enjoy reading and listening to Dianne as she lives science and I can feel the joy she has for science – so it’s obviously not the science but the way it is taught.
This exploration has my attention, thank you Dianne for raising the all important questions – what exactly is it we are picking up on and responding to?
What you share with us Diane is awesome and the way in which you share with us is too. It is very clear when my head tries to rule those food cravings. It’s like a two way conversation between my head and heart. Inside I know what choice to make but, letting the head take over only leads to more negative choices of what to eat and how much is eaten.
In it’s simplest form, we can’t argue that we get strong food cravings. Some are beneficial and others not so. In my experience to date, I find that if I’ve experienced an elevation in mood from food, then I’ve probably eaten something not so supportive. If I’ve eaten good clean food that agrees with me and just enough – without having given myself the buzz of eating – then it has likely been just what I needed. I have learned to the greatest degree which foods do what and keep it this simple. As for quantity, I still have to watch how much I eat, for when I’ve put myself second to what’s going-on in my day, I often find I try to make-up for this with eating something that gives me the buzz of eating, or increase the quantity of foods that do not.
Every time I read one of your articles Dianne, I feel my awareness expand. You have such a gift for expressing science in a way that supports us all to evolve. Thank you.
As for cravings – what you say makes so much sense. If we are choosing a quality, energy…that is, a way of being that is fundamentally harming ie. we do not care for ourselves in a truly self-loving way, then it stands to reason we will be making all of our choices from this energy/quality. This does absolutely nothing towards filling the void we are desperately trying to fill – in fact it only makes it worse. It takes awareness, commitment and dedication to start to say ‘no’ to this energy. It’s not always an easy ride for there is a whole momentum of of harming choices which can throw us off track, but that’s understandable and to be expected and if we can bring that understanding to ourselves we gradually shift the balance of our momentum to healing energy, not harming. The cravings lessen and the self-loving choices become our new normal.
I love that science is starting to catch up with what Serge Benhayon and others before him have been presenting for eons. Our heart is our greatest intelligence.
Considering the brain/mind often wants harmful things then the truth of what to eat or not to eat, must be a question for the heart/mind. I have been learning to discern what energies are impulsing my thoughts with Serge Benhayon and Universal Medicine for many years and have come to know that we all have a choice of two distinct energies to choose from. It will be a true blessing for humanity when science collates enough evidence to support this Ageless Wisdom thus offering an opportunity for al to bel freed from the self-destructive impulses of the brain/mind.
This is very exciting stuff Dianne and you explain it so well. Man had been so lineal in his thinking for far too long and energy desperately needs to be explored on a grand scale. Living from the impulse of the heart is the way forward as the mind has been leading us astray for far too long now.
Certainly lots to ponder on here Dianne: “The ONLY explanation for this is that information, as a field unto itself, is accessible by the body much like television channels travelling through space are accessible by a TV set.” I love this analogy. Obviously the body is switched on and tuned in all the time, constantly receiving the broadcasts. We just need the mind to also tune in, find the ‘right’ channel, and get with program!
Dianne It’s great to have energy clearly described and the growing awareness of our relationship with our heart. We certainly have a lot more going on in our bodies that we credit.
So true Sue, Listening to our bodies is the way forward.
What they tell us might feel challenging because of the chances to our lifestyle this will involve, but listening to them and living accordingly will make us see that our bodies only support us with no agenda at play.
This brings a whole new dimension of logic to the way we truly operate and debunks our prevailing belief system about the mind as the mothership of the body. Particularly struck by the notion that cravings cannot be true messages from a body that always, by its very nature, strives for balance and healthiness. If this is the case, then it is indeed about a redefinition of personal responsibility for discernment and choices, for what is the energy we are ‘letting in’ that works against the body’s primary objective of delivering true health and why do we allow it to come in when we know it’s no good for us? Important to ponder on when I next get a craving…
Brilliant how you describe this energetic field of life Dianne. It makes sense to me as a great deal of what seems to start out in my head is definitely not intelligent in where its coming from. What comes from my heart feels round and well informed – like it comes from a place that see’s the big picture.
As always Dianne, gem after gem in your writing, Where physical science currently leaves off, discernment and choice come in,So quietly and beautifully said… Where science does not know the nature of what 90% of the universe is made of, it is fair and appropriate to bridge out from what physical science states as a truth.
I didn’t fully understand this the first time I read your blog some time ago. This time around I’m more aware of this field of information all around us and how the body is communicating with it. If I lived more connected to and consciously present with my body, I wonder how much aware I would also be of this field? We think of the body as a separate thing, but what if it’s just a different energy form within a sea of energy and moving with it or against it? What if we were able to fully surrender ourselves and our bodies to the awareness of this field? What would we know then?
Only someone born in a lab coat can make science and our body so interesting and fun. Thank you Dianne
What this great blog confirms is the extent to which we are a living science (yet to be discovered) and living scientists in that we learn how to live in such a way as to get body messages that prompt us to action dulling our awareness of the aftermath. The total contrary to this way of living is to rely upon our awareness and discernment to the best of our abilities. To do so, we have to free the body from old patterns that govern us.
I can feel and have observed that too Ariana, that we crave for certain foods in order to change our moods or state of being. For myself I can clearly see that there is always something I try to avoid looking at when I feel the need for craving on food. I know from experience that eating the food will numb the feeling away, but the deeper tension remains, so also the need for craving food remains as a vicious circle.
Great to ponder on the relationship of our bodies and the cravings that we want to satisfy. Reading this blog I realized that if everything is energy and we make not good choices with satisfying our bad cravings then which energy is in at play and dominant.
Very interesting blog Dianne, how our bodies are naturally pulling us towards health and harmony. But also we can be drawn to foods and behaviors that are destructive and very harmful to our bodies. What are the different energy’s that we are connected too that can be so opposing, now that’s worth researching.
I enjoyed reading your blog Dianne and how you incorporate the science of everyday topics in a manner people can easily relate to. You gave us a beautiful reminder of the depth of knowledge the heart has access to, “…all the information about everything is encoded in evergy permanently. It’s thus permanently accessible to whatever is ‘tuned’ to it.”
I almost can’t wait till science catches up to what you are saying here Diane, there is a whole new (or not so new) way to look at health that we are severly in need of. Energy is everything and being able to tap into that energy at will is very exciting.
What an awesome instrument our body is!! I love the way you write Dianne we need more articles like this explaining the esoteric understandings from a scientific perspective. Keep them coming please. 🙂
Thank you Dianne We all become scientists when we ask the question – Why? Looking for answers with the mind can be a slow process and can often take us in the wrong direction, feeling with our heart and body is a sure way to know the truth.
This is a very cool article. Science is catching-up; they’ve already proven the heart is faster at receiving information and more intelligent than the brain through repeated scientific testing. What’s next?
This is a very thought provoking and interesting article. Where is the energy coming from that ‘makes’ me want to eat food that I may later regret? How much am I listening to the true impulses from my body and not just running with the thoughts in my head? I am always amazed to connect how I am feeling with what food I start to crave, and I am always deepening my awareness of how this plays out in the choices I make when selecting my food. There is much here to pay attention to. Thank you Dianne, this is just the beginning of a very enormous revelation for humanity and their eating habits.
It is interesting to note what makes us reach for what foods and when Joanne. The classic example that springs to mind is the times we find ourselves peering into the fridge when we are not hungry, what made us go to the fridge, what are we looking for in there and what do we choose to eat? There is much to ponder on what Dianne presents in this blog about discerning the energy that drives our choices.
I can definitely relate to the pull of wanting to eat a certain food, in a way that is driving or needy, but when I stop and feel my body, I know it’s not coming from my body, but my head, so then I can ask myself, who is this really for, what am I feeding here? At those times when I feel what I need to eat to support me, I don’t actually have that really hungry feeling, I just know I need to eat to support my body through my day. Sometimes I will feel myself looking forward to my lunch, so then I can see, I’m not appreciating myself fully in that moment, as if I did, I wouldn’t be having that thought of looking forward to something more than being with me.
It’s a great point you make Julie – just who or what are we feeding? Bring on the appreciation for ourselves.
I also love this article it speaks to me in everyday language that anyone can understand.
Diane, this is an absolutely awesome blog, just love how you make all the science so relatable and easy to understand, and the expression with which you write has such passion, it is a joy to read, thank you.
Hmm, there are so many questions here that remain unanswered or proved by modern science, and yet by the divine science of energy and its full embracing, seems we are able to have all our answers known. That this is only a matter of timing – a timing for sure that is dependent on the energy. Wow. Looking forward!
I am not sure how far we get bringing science into how to deal with our cravings. Science is very limited in its approach and has difficulty looking at more than one item (effect) at a time. A bit like using a teaspoon to deal with a hill.
Being connected to your heart for the moment is not considered being scientific but we can then feel our cravings in detail, in all their dimensions at once and deal with them. More like taking a bulldozer to a hill. Much quicker.
Love this Christoph. Just brilliant.
Love it Christoph, the power of the heart can just blow those cravings away, whilst the mind can come up with all sorts of totally rational thoughts of why it would be a good idea to consume something that is harmful to our bodies. Dianne you raise the 64 million dollar question what and where is the energy that fuels cravings coming from. Current science seems very limited to be able to answer this question.
Yes great contribution Christoph, the connection to the inner heart is powerful in regard to wiping out so many desires and cravings. There was also a playfulness I felt in Dianne’s way of writing that made it enjoyable to ponder – where science is in relation to important lifestyle choices such as what we eat – which suggests to me that she was connected as she wrote and brought a light and playful approach to what could have been a heavy subject to broach.
Dianne! If only all science teachers had the qualities that you bring to science – your inspiring inquisitiveness and delight in making science accessible to anyone and everyone and your wonderful capacity to link it to and then present energetic truth in everyday language. What a difference that would make in our schools.
Between your blog and Ariana’s first comment a lot has unravelled for me as regards my health history, food cravings and choices. Thank you.
Hello Dianne, I think you did well to just keep this article short. It seems it could be volume after volume on this simple subject. You raise many great points that are worth at least consideration and as you say science appears to be still catching up on the real game at play. “Everything is energy; even matter is energy” is a huge thing for us to consider. We can say it as a punch or throw away line but deeply consider what is being said and you become quite humble. Thank you Dianne you bring a vast subject to us so simply.
I love this explanation, Ariana. I think a lot of the time we get the craving energy and choose to not check out what our body is truly communicating to us. I am learning to feel first before I put something in my mouth as i have noticed when I don’t that I can feel quite yuk in my body later. As Dianne pointed out many of us are taught at a very young age to acquiesce to our cravings rather than true feelings.
It is so easy to give in under stressful conditions and think to ourselves that we will get back on track once things settle down again. I would hate to think how often I have taken that approach in my life. Since understanding more about energy and the fact that it is flowing in and through me all the time, I have been able to be much more discerning as to what is going on when things crop up. I would love to see this sort of information ‘out there’ and more common place in discussions. I wonder what difference that would make to the ever growing rate of diet related chronic health conditions that exist worldwide?
Dianne, as you have explained how the different kinds of stressors can deplete our various internal resources, it seems to make sense then that after a time of stress, or even during it if one is aware, it is important to take extra care in rebuilding the body’s internal floral and nutrient levels.
This will be an interesting point of call for people when they decide to research into all of this- the different energies and how they get in. You’ve presented a lot of thought provoking stuff Dianne and some awesome points made. I particularly like how you linked the body knowing what it requires by receiving information from the energy we pick up. great, great point made there.
Some very important topics have been raised, ones that we all need to deeply consider, thank you for another insightful blog Dianne.
I find it interesting to consider what makes us choose one food over another, and what energy impulses us to make a choice that is either supportive or completely harmful to our body?
In such a short blog you have given us so much valuable and bridging information Dianne
I loved reading and learning from what you presented, thank you.
“Because energy is indestructible and contains information, all the information about everything is encoded in energy permanently.” – Wow!
The acceptance that Everything is Energy supports me to dig deeper to what is going on for me when I stand in front of the freezer at the local shop looking at all the gluten and dairy free cakes (but loaded with sugar) and thinking how wonderful it is that I can still eat something that has custard in it!
I love this Diane, it allows me a deeper honesty to clearly feel that it’s not about telling myself what foods are bad for me and I shouldn’t eat them, or even about what foods I can ‘get away with’ eating but understanding where I’m at and why I’m potentially choosing to put stuff into my body that I know has a detrimental affect.
It will be a great day when the truth of how energy works is truly recognised by science. There will be so much more information and understanding on how the body’s natural intelligence truly works and can live a vital and joy full life. What an essential part this plays for the evolution of humanity. Thanks Diane for all you are offering to bring this day forward.
A nerd with a heart the size of a panettone! I love your blogs Dianne, the unabashed scientific curiosity is both thoroughly enjoyable and insightful all at once. Yes our bodies pick up so much that we may not register consciously and what we need energetically, perhaps like when they pick up someone coming into the room behind us if they are angry, without even seeing them and I am sure when my phone rings, I feel whether to answer it or not sometimes and my body chooses it. It is a great question what energy makes us crave poor nutritional foods and what makes us crave healthy foods. It all comes down to energy so there must be an answer.
Thank you Dianne Trussell, for bringing the truth back into science. It is such a relief for me to read how you bring together your curiosity to the facts of life with the scientific proof behind it and you inner knowing, your connection with the universe where all the science is coded in energy and which you are so playfully connected with.
Yes thank you Dianne for presenting science in such a way that I can consider the whole of me and everything and not simply reduce myself and parts of me and the world into segments, ignoring the fact we are all connected and constantly responsive or reactive to the energy we are receiving at any moment in time.
I love the way you write and I can feel your love of science and making it real and everyday for people to understand, thank you. You have a real gift.
I too have had the experience of knowing what I needed long before my mind caught up and learnt the whys.
It’s a delight Dianne the way your write about science of life, and make it so elementary. Here I got a strong sense of how energy is like a braille we read with our feelings and how we are constantly reading this energy that is imprinted in every thing. Your example of food we know before eating is a great one and easy to relate to. You make science the food of life instead of an abstract intellectual thing.
What a great and very interesting conversation topic, thanks Dianne. It has inspired me to re-connect to myself once at home from work when the food cravings kick in. I want to take the time to explore how/why I have let this energy in to then so easily want to eat to not feel.
This is a great ‘entry level’ article to bring a scientific slant to the important question of what energy we choose to live in and express from. I totally get that everything is energy and love how Dianne introduces the importance of western medicine and science and brings in a truth – that we are not accessing all there is to now and that we can be open to greater understanding and the likelihood that eventually scientific research may assist that understanding to be embraced world wide.
Wow, this is super fascinating! I find “a body that always, by its very nature, strives for balance and healthiness” absolutely beautiful. This re-confirms the preciousness and innocence of my body and makes me feel like a perfectly healthy new-born baby! Thank you Dianne for writing this.
That makes perfect sense to Dianne – there are time when impulses from my body and mind are so strong that I go for foods that I don’t even like, only to find out they are zinc rich or full of magnesium and just what I needed at the time. I look forward to science catching up with the ‘information rich’ energy out there. In the mean time thank you for the forewarning about our own innate ability to discern for ourselves what is harmful – may we all listen carefully.
A great posting Dianne. I love this paragraph ‘Not only the heart can pick up energy, but of course the brain and the whole body can too, but what energy? This is an important question, especially since what the brain/mind ‘thinks’ it wants and ‘thinks’ it likes, are often the harmful things. Since information-loaded energy is what’s being picked up by the body, it will be necessary in future to work out the different kinds of energy, how they ‘get in’, and what their implications are to the human being.’ You ask very worthy questions that society as a whole needs to start taking notice of and asking themselves.
Thank-you Dianne for the way you present science, that brings it alive making it interesting and accessible to those of us who don’t have a wonderful scientific mind such as your own.
We are far from truly understanding the science of energy. Unfortunately we are fed explanations and solutions that don’t feel true at all. Like microwaves are “bad” energy. Do we have proof of this? One of the many beautiful gifts Universal Medicine gave to me was to re-learn how to discern energy and to trust again what feels true to my body.
I am slowly starting to understand that everything is energy and that we are capable of reading the information that is contained in everything that we encounter. Thank you Dianne Trussell for expanding on this matter by looking into food cravings, that there are good and bad cravings and how these are reflected in the body. Now we have brought the aspect of everything is energy into it we cannot else than consider the fact that there must be different energies that feed our thoughts. How can we otherwise choose the bad cravings while our body is naturally looking for balance and healthiness?
Dianne, I love how simply and factually you write about ‘how the body can access information outside itself, at a distance’. I can feel how vitally important this knowledge and understanding is to our lives, in people being able to take responsibility for themselves, no matter what; that people are not sitting ducks, just waiting for something good or bad to happen to them. If our bodies are responding to something before our brain can even think of it, then wow, how special are our bodies and how vital is that they are treated with the utmost delicate care to allow them the best chance at feeling energy.
Thank you Dianne, I love reading your blog. It is very informative and makes so much sense.
Dianne you have a gorgeous way of bringing science into our livingness. Thank you so much.
I can really relate to what you have shared here Dianne about the mind not being the only part of us that can receive signals, and that when we place more of a focus towards how the body feels we can learn more about those signals. As you wrote “what the brain/mind ‘thinks’ it wants and ‘thinks’ it likes, are often the harmful things.” I have experienced this in craving something and then once I get that food item and place it in my mouth more often then not lately I get the ‘cream cracker affect’ – my mouth movements become slower, I don’t enjoy what is in my mouth, my jaw aches, it’s hard to swallow and hurts in my stomach. Even before placing the food in my mouth I can feel my arms becoming stiff at times as I go towards the food I am ‘craving’. All from taking a moment to ask how my body feels rather than submitting to the lead of my mind saying “foodfoodfoodfoodgetitgetitgetitgetit”. What is even more interesting I am learning is that it is not even the amount of food I may eat, if my body doesn’t want it even the smallest piece will cause upset. And sometimes that mind drive for a food can make me believe that I really really want that food, but when I get it and the body starts to complain there is this feeling of being let down and flat, as if I had placed so much into that food bringing me something and it didn’t, if not the complete opposite affect. Like eating when in a bad mood to distract or stimulate myself away from what I am feeling only makes me feel even worse! The Body definitely knows best as I am learning more and more.
I love what you have written here Leigh. the mind saying ‘foodfoodfoodfoodgetiitgetitgetitgetit’ it really is just like that when the mind tries to drive but when the mind is driving there is no thought for the body or the effect on it. Stopping to feel and reconnect allows that moment of pause – just long enough to feel the food is just a distraction or a numbing. Great blog.
Adding to this I have started to notice how with the assistance of the rest of my body these seemingly ‘hungry’ feelings are actually not for food but for something else. I was in the office today at work and I was cold and for a moment I assumed and thought that I was hungry but what I clocked was I was seeking something warm while heating up a soup. Putting on an extra jumper and going back into the room I felt more supported with that extra layer and the soup really just didn’t do it for me but the hot mug was welcomed! Same goes for if I am super tired I’ll seek sugar but I know now that actually what my body wants is sleep, not more work by digesting something. Rather than going on the thoughts of ‘hungry now, lets eat’ if other parts of my body are not in line with this then these ‘cravings’ are actually for something else other than food.
The discernment between craving and truth is one of needed attention for many people I feel (:
This is fantastic Ariana. It has given me a greater understanding into cravings and my own connection with myself. This makes so much sense.
I love the way you write about science and the body and how you make it common sense and natural. It is so interesting and I “crave” more!
Fascinating blog Dianne. For starters, really grasping that ‘everything is energy and everything is because of energy’, is huge in terms discerning the type of energy that is driving us. Hopefully true scientific research will bring us many answers to the sorts of questions you have posed here in the not too distant future.
I love how you express science in layman’s terms so that I can understand it, Dianne. Great questions that you raise and I look forward to further blogs!
Fantastic article, Dianne. The field of collective (un)consciousness is a subject that has fascinated scientists over the years. I came across a number of hypothesis that have been experimented and well publicised to prove its phenomena, and it is interesting to note they seem to remain as ‘hypothesis’ and not recognised as the truth that is relevant and impactful to and in the way we live.
It´s very inspiring reading your article! I like how you bring science with beautiful simplicity! 🙂
I have so enjoyed a second read of your blog, Dianne. This time I was able to understand more fully the science of the body and all the wonders that it can bring me when I connect and feel the energy that is the pulse of life.
The body’s intelligence reflects truth, something which our mind can alter to numb this awareness. Constantly discerning which messages come from our body and which come from our mind is important to do.
Dianne – you have a way of making science so fascinating and relatable. While I was reading your article I felt how I have trained my body to like the taste of sweet things. Lollies and sweets were used as a reward when I was a child. When I eat sweets I feel terrible (and always have), I can see that I have used my mind and the false equation that sweets = love to override the truth that I am in fact abusing myself when I indulge in sugary ‘treats’.
It makes complete sense to me Dianne, that the heart is the first organ to receive energy, not the brain. I have noticed that often I just feel funny about something, long before I mentally work out what is upsetting or worrying me. It is so interesting to connect the dots that food cravings are our body talking to us, it’s up to us to listen.
This is such a fun read and very interesting to look into those things stated, the way our bodies are energy and always connected to energy around us, and how it’s so important to choose the right energy to let in and commit to.
I remember mentioning to a friend that our bodies know what foods we need. And she replied that if she let her body tell her what to eat she would be ‘drinking cappuccino and eating chocolate biscuits every meal’. We need to explore what the energy is that allows us to choose harming foods or substances over what our bodies naturally need. Thank you Dianne for making this science a joyful revelation.
Thank you Dianne for sharing this insightful article, there are many things science has overlooked when it comes to the body and energy and of cause the heart and the energy of love that we live in has barely got a mention I look forward to all this unravelling by science in the near future.
Wonderful read Dianne, thank you. I love how you express about science so clearly and easily, thus making it a joy to read and understand . “Everything is energy” fascinating.
awesome blog Dianne. I felt that our hearts receive energy and our bodies are always communicating energy. As you have so clearly expressed “what energy is it that is in our bodies?”
Thank you Dianne Trussell, you are a Scientist Extraodinaire! I loved reading your blog, what a truly fascinating subject. What innate wisdom we hold in our bodies, and realising how we are all connected is both exciting and a huge responsibility. Truly, the whole world seems to be craving for love, but instead we crave food, alcohol, all manner of numbing substances, which then stop us from connecting to what we crave the most, Love, it’s all back to front.
Yes Ariana, I agree, there definitely is a difference between the energy of a craving and being totally connected to ourselves. Once this difference is recognised, it then becomes a choice to succumb to the energy or not. And it is certainly true that when we are connected to ourselves, this energy loses power over us, how powerful we are, and how simple life could be if we choose to stay connected.
So food cravings come from how we live – sums up how much responsibility we have with our daily choices.
Thanks Dianne, for bringing back the purity and innocent wonder of science, the nature of true enquiry and openness to the multi-dimensionality of science that is so often reduced out of existence. Once again Science can sparkle with the joy and confirmation of the magic that is all around us.
Now i just wish I could answer the arithmetic that will allow me to post this comment …
This is very interesting, thank you Dianne, you make science very simple.
haha, good one Annie! Maths was never my strong point either 🙂
I also love this approach to science and I will definitely change my way of doing but especially communicating my own research work at university. Science has to be completely redefined and approached energetically in the future. I can already feel the amazing potential of doing research work on the esoteric and occult wisdom to give the world the scientific proof they need to let deep wisdom in. And it`s possible to do all of that based on simplicity. Science understandable for each and everyone… I can already feel it…
It is interesting to see that our minds decide so much of the time what is to go into our bodies – yet it is our bodies that deal with the consequences. Learning how our body signals to us and developing a relationship to that is key to avoid the illness and disease that can follow from eating or drinking in a way that is not supportive for our body.
As the body always knows best I should turn to it and truly feel if the food I’m about to put in my mouth is what it is asking for. Thank you Dianne.
A fascinating read, thank you Dianne.
Dianne I love these kind of conversations that ask us to question and explore the true nature of things. The science of the heart is something that I do find fascinating, how we feel things in our bodies, or know things in our heart to be true or not before we understand in our minds why or how we can have a sense of something before it physically happens. I also feel that this blog highlights the question for me: am I living from the impulses of my heart or from the machinations of my mind that are operating to avoid the truth of what my heart is presenting? This is a wonderful opportunity for me to ponder more deeply on this, thank you Dianne.
Wow Carola your comment on Dianna’s blog is quite profound in itself. I don’t think we will ever reveal the science of what the heart feels from our minds. Feeling the impulses of the heart and letting them lead the way will get us there.
I’m fascinated by the different types of energy and how they get in, and how we can innately know what is good for us and what isn’t, yet still have the ability to override what the body is telling us (often loudly). I very much look forward to science swinging in this direction and stumbling across the true answers to what is going on – it is truly revelatory.
Dianne. Your comments have been a real eye opener. I had cravings for so much sweet foods. Chocolate, desserts of all kinds etc. suddenly I started to come out in a rash on my arms and legs. This was due to my sugar intolerance .
Out went the sugar, and dairy. The rash has started to clear up, but also has helped reduce my weight, without any form of dieting.
All down to your comments, and the body saying leave the sweet thing alone.
How great it is that you were “born in lab coat” and that you have taken that ‘talent’ to share with the world in oh such an accessible and understandable way.
Science has such a ‘Them’ and ‘Us’ consciousness around it. The Scientists who are revered for all of their knowledge and who in many cases look down on Masses who would never have the intelligence to understand it. Diane you bring that incredible knowledge that you have and explain it in a way that so so easy and understandable to show that we ALL have the ability to embrace science and get involved in it.
Science is a part of the world we live in so lets get in it.
Great blog Dianne. I sat with what you shared for a moment and it is profound how our body indeed knows how foods will be in it before they are in the body. What I love about the science of the body too is that it will never lie. If the energy of the food put into it is not true for it, the body will make this very clear always.
I loved reading about the intelligence of our heart and our cells, and the body. You have elucidated how we live in a field of energy and that we can be more aware of how and why we make choices. I don’t have a scientific background but the way you write makes it clear that our bodies are science and therefore we are all scientists of our bodies. Would you agree Dianne?
A very interesting and thought provoking article Dianne. I’m sure we can all relate to craving ‘foods’ that are not good for us. It will be of great benefit to humanity when we understand what is going on energetically ‘behind the scenes’ when we crave things that are bad for us, both in improving our physical well-being and understanding our behaviours.
Thank you Dianne for introducing “Everything is Energy” with simplicity. Mind, body, heart and energy – they all decide how we live Self harming or Self Loving. It is worth pondering what energy are we aligned to since it seems to be making the choices.
I have had plenty of foods cravings in my 45 years. The mind can be unrelenting at times in telling us what we should be eating and for a long time that was all I listened to. Now I understand that my heart may be suggesting something different to eat and I am more aware of how food feels in the body. If I fall for the craving these days it tastes good for seconds in the mouth and then my body suffers the consequences sometimes for days after.
Dianne, I love reading your blogs. They raise such important questions. It doesn’t matter how much we know in our minds at the end it comes to the body to make choices and then deal with it. True understanding of energy and how it effects us comes from the experimenting and knowing on the physical level what is nurturing and supportive and what is harmful. So when we make our choices based on quality we need to be looking at cravings, for what they show is easy.
Thank you Dianne, I enjoy your scientific explorations a lot. I could sit in a classroom with you all day listening to all the wonders of the body and the universe.
Thank you Dianne, what an amazing sentence “Here’s the curly question: how does my body know about the composition and location of something that ‘I’ have never encountered before? That implies the body can access information outside itself, at a distance. The ONLY explanation for this is that information, as a field unto itself, is accessible by the body much like television channels travelling through space are accessible by a TV set.” This explains so much, why I know who is ringing before I pick up the phone, or why I felt not to go to that party, so many choices everyday are based on feelings we are not even aware of – thank you Dianne for making this all make sense.
Interesting stuff to ponder on, Dianne. Thank you for sharing.
This article makes sense of science and shows me that there is science in everything I think, say and do. All matter is energy so it does matter what energy I use.
Dianne, thank you for the scientific outlook on cravings, it’s a battle I am defeating slowly.
A very inspiring blog Dianne bringing scientific understanding to food cravings. A blog I will be returning many times to as there is much to reflect upon here. Thank you!
Great blog Dianne … this is something I will sit with. It’s a great piece to ponder on.
Thanks Dianne. Science is awesome! Especially when presented by you.
When I am tempted to unhealthy food (being a person who was rewarded with sweets and chocs in my childhood )
I ‘tune in’ to my heart to access whether I honestly “need” a reward any longer………it is always a resounding ‘NO’.
Thank you Dianne for this informative blog and brilliant presentations you offer through Universal Medicine.
Is it not crazy how the mind is the very thing that keeps most of us from feeling energy with our entire bodies which when felt holds no bounds to where science may go in the future.
I hear so many people in the hospital shop where I work excuse themselves for buying chocolate and fizzy drinks to keep them going. They know, and they admit it out loud, but the craving and the belief it helps short term take over. There are the two energies at work, the knowing the truth of what the body needs for its nourishment from the heart, and the habitual option of the comfort and falsely energising food from the brain. I know this too and realise how difficult it can be to listen to the true messages from the body, despite experiencing how nurturing it can be when I do take notice.
What an awesome article Dianne talking about food and other cravings. For me it has been a very long trip way out there to the land of satisfying the instant craving, whether it was chocolate, peanut butter, salted chips – anything basically with extra sugar or salt in it. But thankfully I am learning to listen more to what my body actually feels like and not what the mind decides it wants and it invariably wants it right now. My awareness has only been heightened since I’ve been encouraged to see that there is another way to approach food intake and the true purpose of eating food at all. I have had to learn that eating food is not to satisfy emotional needs – that specific extended foray took me on a very long slippery slope and I am finally learning to address the real issue behind my past emotional eating and cravings. Reading your scientific approach to these issues brings sense to this intense topic of interest.
Adding to the craving subject, with a twist, is that we have not yet discussed smell and taste on this blog. And that’s an important subject. To me, if food does not smell or taste right I can’t and won’t eat it. This is how our bodies are supposed to work. I know it’s not just some conditioned bias, because there are times when a food I don’t like the smell or taste of suddenly smells great and my body is saying I need it. Then it tastes good too! One thing to be very aware of is that big food corporations know how tied in to taste and smell we are when it comes to eating. They add chemicals to processed foods that either are or mimic the natural chemicals (but in unnatural concentrations and combinations) that send ‘very desirable’ signals via our noses and taste buds to our brains to make us want more and more of them, to the point of craving. To me this is blatantly unethical, manipulating us with our basic biology, but it’s allowed and it’s increasing. So it’s a good idea to minimize consumption of strong tasting/smelling, highly processed foods, especially if they make you feel driven to have more….
I cannot agree more about the use of taste and smell to seduce consumers into buying certain foods; foods that have no nutritional value to our bodies at all and are more than likely harming. And yes I also am in total agreement with your words; “To me this is blatantly unethical, manipulating us with our basic biology, but it’s allowed and it’s increasing.” It is also very scary to know these corporations have the resources to do this and with only one goal in mind, to make more money at the expense of the health and well being of others. Thank you for exposing this, and exposed it must be!
Well said Ingrid. It is scary and alarming that big corporations have the resources to play around with our basic biology, with the end goal in mind; ‘to make more money at the expense of the health and well being of others. The word responsibility pops up, and how we all have been responible for allowing this manipulation of our food chain and how it will only change when we each become more aware of the energy we are choosing and living in before we buy any food.
Its great what you say here Ingrid. I just read that plastic rice grains have been detected in actual rice grains being sold for consumption. A potent example of what you write, blatantly unethical behaviour obviously driven by greed. Hard to believe human beings could have that little regard for, or perhaps that much contempt for their fellow brothers. Shaking my head in disbelief.
Dianne,
This is great. I wonder how this would ‘taste’ to the big food corporations? Could they swallow the truth?
Yes, decidedly ‘naughty’. thank you for the heads up Dianne
Thank you Dianne, wonderful blog – you make it so easy to read and understand that one can forget it’s science. I love how you keep it all so simple.
Many times in my life I looked at a food or a dish of food or even something like a vitamin pill which I haven’t had before and I knew whether it was right or not.
I never questioned it – I very much enjoyed I could do it. It even happened in restaurants when I was with a group of people. I almost always had the best tasting dish even if I had never been to that restaurant. It just felt right when I read the description.
Dianne, something like that seems to be what you mean.
That is true and something to ponder on, where do these craving come from, what energy is at play. Something I am currently working on myself, as I get these cravings and when I feed them, I am left feeling extremely tired.
This is such an inspiring blog. We all have experience with food cravings and I am no exception. My body does not ask for the food I eat while I have a food craving. So where does this come from? To make it about energy first is very important. As Einstein has said: Its all about energy, so how about our food cravings? What energy is there first before I have a food craving?
Ahoy Mariette, that’s very revealing when you said: “My body does not ask for the food I eat while I have a food craving.” It’s clear that you are feeling the difference between a genuine healthy requirement and ‘something else’ going on!
What I notice is that even before I get the food craving, the energy is already there. I can be an hour before. Then I get the thoughts, like oh I want peanuts, and then I get this mental struggle saying but you don’t want the peanuts you know how you are going to feel afterwards etc. and then I take them anyhow. It feels like the energy takes over and is stronger. Very interesting and something I am observing at the moment. It is not about the peanuts, but about me letting in an energy.
I have just come back to read you blog again Dianne, I love your questions and the way you write it is so inspiring and make so much sense. I find cravings fascinating because I can tell myself all the way to the cupboard that I don’t want what I know is in there but I will still be drawn to the cupboard and eat the thing I craved for at that moment. Where does that come from? What energy allows me to eat something that I know I either don’t want or is not good for me……do animals in the wild get cravings…I doubt it they instinctively know what is good for them, so what is it about humans that have the urge to crave things? Bringing it down to energy makes sense and maybe science will one day be able to show this.
I have certainly found what you say to be true Ariana. For a long time as soon as I would arrive at the office where I work I would want to snack on something regardless of how well or not I might have eaten that morning. It took a while for me to catch on to the fact that my cravings were not actually what my body needed but a way of numbing my body to feeling what I did not want to feel and face.
I am my own experiment, I can say without a doubt I have been getting to know my heart better over the last few years and I can feel so much of what it receives. “Not only the heart can pick up energy, but of course the brain and the whole body can too, but what energy?” A great question to ask, what is a true biological craving? Where is the basis for any craving? is it from the energy that we choose to live in? More research will come I am sure. Lovely article – Thank you.
A fascinating blog Dianne, raising some great points that make so much sense.
It is great to bring understanding to the energetic factors at play that influence our behaviours. This seems to be key, ‘Since information-loaded energy is what’s being picked up by the body, it will be necessary in future to work out the different kinds of energy, how they ‘get in’, and what their implications are to the human being’.
Fascinating article Dianna explaining cravings in relation to Science. I especially loved reading the part of good cravings and bad cravings, and your question: ‘is the craving a true reflection of the body’s need, or an artificially produced craving for something that is not beneficial but harmful?’ Gave me more understanding of how people and myself choose things that are indeed harmful for our bodies and then say; ‘I know it’s bad for me, but I like it’.
I agree Jacqueline, this is a fascinating article explaining cravings in relation to Science. We have all experienced the feeling of food cravings (especially the harmful variety) and to have an explanation of why, is great. Its easy to ignore the craving and give into it, but with greater awareness comes a greater ability to look at the “why” and it is easier to say no and make more loving choices.
You make science fun, interesting and accessible for me (and everybody else). Fascinating what you write:
‘The heart has been experimentally shown to pick up and respond to outside information before the brain does.’
This makes so much sense to me. The brain has been giving too much credit for the amazing functioning of our body. You bring understanding about what is really going on in our body. Thank you.
A fascinating blog with so much to ponder . Thank you.
This is a fantastic blog that helps us understand food cravings, and what is really going on with our bodies. I have made a huge amount of changes to support my body rather than abuse it over the last few years, and even now if I give in to the cravings for things that I know don’t support me (because we all know), then at least I have the opportunity to ask myself why? and what is going on? which helps me to not continue with that choice.
I’m with you on that one Laura, sometimes giving in to the cravings, but as more and more awareness is there as to where these cravings come from, and why they are happening, I can make choices to stop and feel, re-connect to myself, and the feeling (energy) goes away. I can then take an honest look as to why I had the craving in the first place and that is the first step to healing. As someone said to me recently, “To Feel is to Heal”, beautiful.
Thank you Dianne for making Science so accessible – and just plain common sense. It is so beautiful to have the simplicity and clarity that you have brought to all things Scientific.
I love this article Dianne and love the way your mind and body teach a new way of looking at things.
I agree Kevin. My body teaches me new ways of looking at things, meanwhile my mind tries to talk me out of it. Fortunately my body is getting much louder than my mind so I can now see through these tricks.
I love this logical and simple explanation of how the body and cravings work.
Looking at the obvious – people who choose alcohol, smoking, junk food know these to be bad choices and not what nourishes the body.
I never really used to look at food in terms of truly nourishing. I saw it as something that gave me energy or made me feel full.
Now as I look at food in a nourishing way, it has completely changed my relationship, and has allowed my body to be much more sensitive to foods that aren’t good for me.
I certainly had a way of using my mind to justify bad food choices, and override the feelings or signs my body was giving to me – but now they cannot be ignored – as I become more open to them. The body is an amazing thing!
I agree Dianne, it is a curious paradox that we crave foods and other substances that are clearly harmful to the body and against our basic biology. For this to make any sense, there must be another factor involved and that must be energy or consciousness. No other explanation makes as much sense to me and science seems to be going in that direction.
Andrew, I feel the same as I find myself craving for all sorts of food, especially when I have had a busy and hectic day or if I have not been able to allow myself to have some time for me during the day. I don’t really like sweet things, but I notice that I often go for something sweet just to give me a boost or if I am feeling nervous or anxious I go for salty foods.
Yes, it doesn’t make sense to crave a food or substance that is harmful.. It makes sense that it is a consciousness or energy that triggers the response in the 1st place.
Yes, I agree Andrew and Rachel, there has to be something else at play here, and as you say it makes sense, ‘ that it is a consciousness or energy that triggers the response’ in the first place.
I love understanding my body and the science behind it. I noticed recently how in the past when I’m sick I can either be more careful about the choices I make to support it, e.g. choose to eat something I know will nourish it, like a hot chicken soup, or ‘give in’ to feeling rubbish and choose to eat fish fingers, waffles and baked beans. One will truly support my body at that time, one will give me comfort and help me avoid what is there to feel and take responsibility for. When the choice considers my body, it is more likely to be the true choice.
A great and interesting blog thank you Dianne. Food can be used for so many purposes.
Hi Dianne I had no idea that “bacteria” can actually help breakdown things our body can’t digest. I’ve seen the Adverts for making sure you have friendly Bacteria in your “gut” but never knew why. It’s really interesting to think that we need this bacteria to help us eat what we can’t actually eat. If we didn’t eat so many things we could not digest it seems that perhaps that bacteria would have more time and space to produce essential nutrients which would help keep us more vital!
You raise some excellent points Dianne – I love it, I love learning about health science and other science, but what you have presented is that a lot of the information we are taught in school/that scientists are coming to so far, is leaving gaps in explaining in full our experiences in life – a great question about causes of cravings, certainly a good point to start with by addressing what energy it is that causes this, if everything is energy as Einstein presented in e=mc2
Very interesting Dianne, ‘The ONLY explanation for this is that information, as a field unto itself, is accessible by the body much like television channels travelling through space are accessible by a TV set.’ Thanks for your simple, understandable examples of energy and how it gets in to the body, I loved reading, ‘Because energy is indestructible and contains information, all the information about everything is encoded in energy permanently. It’s thus permanently accessible to whatever is ‘tuned’ to it.’ This really helps me to understand energy, thank you.
Ariana you express here with such clarity and wisdom. In reading your comment I am aware of how much I use food as a solution, as a relief. I will explore your tip of developing more connection further.
I love this article. Mobile phones and computers and transplants that were part of science fiction a few years ago are now part of everyday life. The information you are sharing with us here will one day be common knowledge too. Understanding the different energies and how they get in, allows for the possibility of a greater command over our lives and for me this is very inspiring and heart warming.
Thank you Diane. Your writing makes a complex scientific question so simple to understand. What made it absolutely clear and obvious to me is where you say “Everything is energy; even matter is energy. Because energy is indestructible and contains information, all the information about everything is encoded in energy permanently. It’s thus permanently accessible to whatever is ‘tuned’ to it.”
Thank you Dianne, this article exposes for me the true nature of food cravings as not being supportive to my body which “by its very nature, strives for balance and healthiness”.
“Our heart feels energy, sometimes before the brain picks it up”…this is science. Sharing this information with the world is fantastic. Just to ponder that we are learning that energy can be picked up and transferred in different parts of the body opens up a new conversation. “Everything is Energy” I also feel this to be true.
Dianne I love your clear and concise explanation of science, something that was always taught in the most BORING way when I was at school. But when you write or speak it becomes clear and I understand. I love this line the body “by its very nature, strives for balance and healthiness” that is so true if we allow it, I am yet to be at a point where I am not battling with my minds’ desires for the unhealthy options, but it makes sense that if you are aligned to a loving natural energy, you would only behave in a way that looks after your body as that is natural for nature!
I love this line too, the body “by its very nature, strives for balance and healthiness”, we know exactly how to look after our bodies at any given moment, we just have to listen, and ignore all the minds desires that don’t support it. Simple, if we let it be.
Thank you Dianne for bringing simplicity to the understanding of the science behind cravings and beyond.
What you have described here Dianne explains many phenomenon that I have experienced in my life, such as when my phone rings, many times I have a feeling of who it is, and I am correct when I answer it. This happens more frequently with friends/family that I feel very close to. It’s almost like I am feeling them as my equal, and we are in some kind of resonance or same wavelength (similar to what you shared about ‘tuning in’ to a radio or TV station).
The interesting thing is that during these times of having a little premonition about something occurring and having it confirmed as accurate later, there is no analytical thinking or ‘figuring out’ of anything – it’s just a feeling I’ve had. This seems to also confirm what you were saying about feelings being an energy and our bodies (especially the heart) are acting like a giant, powerful antenna to receive these signals of information that are connected with all the other matter comprised of energetic waves in the Universe (like swimming in a sea of energy really). The Institute of Heart Math has done some very intriguing research that proves a lot of what you’ve so simply and beautifully shared here Dianne. Thank you.
Dianne this is a really fascinating question for science to be asking – what are the different kinds of energy and how does our body let them in? If these energies come to us as ‘information loaded’ it will be very revealing to study what their implications are, for our daily lives and the choices we make.
Hi Dianne, you refer to possible inappropriate training of the nerve pathways: ‘Physically, the reward pathways of nerves in the brain are involved. However they are wired for foods in their natural state and quantities, and not modern aberrations! Also, they respond according to how they’ve been trained and that training may have been inappropriate, such as constantly rewarding children’s behaviour with sweets.’ and it occurs to me, still battling with food cravings, that if it is training that was the issue, is re-training possible? Yes, of course it is, but as Ariana says, we need to understand what it is we are craving in the first place and feed that from within ourselves.
Ariana thank you so much for spelling out what happens when we have cravings that aren’t in line with what our body needs. That these cravings are driven by our seeking solutions (or numbness) outside of ourselves (that bag of potatoes will make me feel better!). And that, by connecting to ourselves, the craving goes.
I could use cravings like these as a sign for me to reconnect with myself – I do not have to act on them! I am discovering, when I connect to myself, no issue is too big that I need to look outside of myself for a solution.
Thanks Dianne for introducing the fact that everything is energy and this affects us having cravings.
And Ariana thanks for explaining this aspect more deeply. I now have greater understanding that if I get food cravings which I do, it is because I am not connected to my inner heart.
Absolutely agree Karin and Ariana, this article is Gold as it goes to the root cause of it and does not offer a solution that never works. The craving is just an expression of me not being connected and it doesn’t help to discipline myself to not go for it, but I just have to reconnect and it is gone. Everything is energy!! Awesome Dianne thank you for this great article.
I love the simplicity of this. The craving is showing me that I am not connected with myself. Imagine sharing this with the weight loss industry.
I love what you have written here, there is so much more than what we ‘think’ we know. I have just seen amazing footage of how new galaxies have been found and how scientists have found much bigger clusters of galaxies than what they originally thought, how the universe is so much bigger it is fasinating and changes the whole perceptionn of everything.
Really enjoy your blogs – they ask big questions but your findings are always clear and simple. Its amazing to consider if we are picking up signals from outside of us, and these are being received direct by the heart then what else is going on in the world of energy that has yet to be understood by scientists?
Dianne you have such a brilliant and disarming way of making science understandable and engaging for the lay-person. Thank you. The areas of development that you introduce here will be life changing in so many ways as research will reveal to support what you have presented.
It’s true Jonathan, when we make science simple and express it in a way that everyone can understand, we bring the teachings of it alive in a practical way and make it accessible for everyone to appreciate the wisdom of what they are learning.
Great article Dianne, I can really feel how I sometimes eat to numb myself because I don’t want to feel something, even though this adds to the stress on my body and does not work. When I am feeling the true beauty in myself, I eat honouring that. Interesting observations and facts for us all to ponder and gives a great sense of power to our choices. Thank you.
I agree, Tricia. An awesome read that has given me too a lot to ponder on.
Great blog and comments, I am inspired to look deeper into my food choices and why I am making them.
Thank you Dianne a really interesting read – especially how our body knows what it needs and the question you raise with “is the craving a true reflection of the body’s need, or an artificially produced craving for something that is not beneficial but harmful?” and that “Everything is energy; even matter is energy.”
What an opportunity to understand our body’s functions scientifically as we live them! You bring such a fresh approach for many people, Dianne, and a new way of looking at what food we are drawn to eat and why, and where the impulse comes from, (biologically.) You make it so clear that everything is connected and that everything is energy, and we have to become aware of that energy, source and effect, and can make a choice not to listen to the cravings, but feed ourselves from those very receptive cells of the heart, and eat with love. Thank you.
Thanks for this Dianne, I found this a really interesting read – seeing how all the inescapable scientific facts link directly to energy. Just because it’s something we can’t see, it doesn’t mean we aren’t feeling it – as you say, from a distance.
Well said Cheryl. What we feel can often be much more powerful than what we see and when you consider we all live within a sea of energy that constantly guides us and flows all around us even though we can’t see it we can feel it. This is true science and needs to be studied with truth and integrity much more in the coming years for us to understand the present trajectory humanity in going in and what we can do together to bring it back to a state of harmony.
Wow! Very interesting, you make science fun and a pleasure to read. I look forward to reading more from you in the future. Thanks Diane.
I agree Kevin, Dianne has an amazing ability to make science simple and easy to understand. Science is no longer the mystery that it used to be for me.
I so agree Ariana it is easy to dismiss a craving under the pretence of not being that important, or I will eat this now and look at why I am eating it later, but it is already too late, we have over-ridden that first impulse that something is not right….our bodies are amazing how they talk tot us….if only we would listen to those little signs.
So so true Alison. I find it important to listen to those cravings, and what they are trying to tell me.
So true Ariana it is never truly about the food but a crutch or a distraction through seeking to numb or cause raciness to make ourselves not feel the truth of what’s going on for us. Choosing to see a craving as a signpost to look deeper is a great support if we choose to listen and not override what the body is telling us.
Some of our choices in life don’t always come from the real, loving us. We then learn the consequences of those choices and either stick to the same choices or move on to something different. Either way each choice will always have an end result that we may or may not be content with.
Diane, you have such a playful way with science that makes it engaging and enjoyable. You bring it back to a common sense knowing. I love reading your blogs. Thanks for this one.
I so agree Phil – thank you Dianne for making science to playful – it makes it much easier for me to ‘get it’ too – just awesome.
I agree with Phil here Dianne, I love your lighthearted and playful approach to science and how you explain it. And especially how you go beyond and take the reader into what might be only discovered tomorrow but already makes a lot of sense today.
Yes Judith it’s like Dianne has opened the door way to the unknown which feels like its already know. So much like the reoccurring comment “I know this food is bad for me… but I’m still going to eat it.”
Dianne, I love listening to you explain science and now reading it just as good! I wish you were my science teacher at school I just did not get how relevant it is to life and everything! Now with your understanding of energy and science explaining how the heart picks up and sends information to the brain is fascinating and confirmation of what we already know!
Very interesting Dianne, thank you for sharing this.
Dianne I love your down-to-earth explanations. Hmm, my body as a TV set tuning into all the many stations that are available, in one way a great opportunity to explore, yet in another a real call to pay attention to which programme is on my screen. As you expressed – realising the importance of discernment and choice, not just leaving the telly on in the corner of the room, doing its own thing, as it were.
“Since information-loaded energy is what’s being picked up by the body, it will be necessary in future to work out the different kinds of energy, how they ‘get in’, and what their implications are to the human being.” Fantastic Diane this sets the standards for the next generation of science.
Indeed food for thought Helen. Super interesting article Diane. Your depth of understanding of science and energy that you share is amazing. Thank you.
This is fascinating Dianne, thank you so much for presenting it in such an accessible way – it has given me much food for thought!
Fabulous blog Dianne, so interesting and it’s great to hear the science behind our food choices explained with such simple clarity.
I really enjoyed reading this article. Science light hearted, beautiful.
Fascinating the way this is presented, it allows greater understanding about what is going on when we make choices. It makes sense that the cells of the body communicate what we need, and if we listen we can make the choices that work best for our bodies.
Great blog Dianne, thank you. It was very interesting to get a better understanding about the ‘science stuff’.
Thanks Dianne. Beautiful to see how science, energy, cravings and food are all interrelated.
Thanks Dianne for bridging science and cravings in such an accessible and understandable way.
Thank you Dianne for bringing your knowledge of Science and the body together to get me/us thinking and pondering on the subject, to delve deeper into it rather than keeping it at surface level. It gets me to stop and ask “ok if I am doing this, why am I doing this,” especially if it is harmful to my body.
I completely agree too, your understanding of life and science and the body has really inspired and fascinated me – I really loved reading your article, thank you! I kept imagining how amazing books on such important subjects as this would be for everyone.
Yes I agree Meg – this kind of articles make science relative to our own lives and bodies. This makes it so much fun. I would love a book about this too.
Well said James, we are blessed to have Dianne’s love of science and energetic truth shared in such an accessible way. It is fascinating to deepen our understanding of the energetic factors at play that influence our behaviour, and how information received and responded to by our heart is very different than from our head. It makes sense then, that this determines whether we end up making decisions that are true and good for us or not.
Spot on Ariana! All roads lead back to the mouth and the decisions we make to fuel those cravings.
This puts me on notice of what is coming out of my mouth, as in, how responsible am I being in my expression.
Thanks Dianne for starting this discussion. You certainly bring up what we need to start questioning, and not just living in automatic pilot, as this is obviously not working for us as human beings.
I agree Nicole. What you present here Dianne is a great conversation starter and one we could all have with ourselves and others.
I absolutely agree Nicole that running on automatic pilot is not “working for us as human beings”. It’s time to chuck that irresponsible pilot out of the driver’s seat and take charge of our own life by making the choice to take responsibility for our health and well being; and most importantly learning to trust the messages from our heart over the ones from our brain.
